Search Bexar County Inmates

Bexar County inmate records show who is in custody, when they were booked, and on what charge. A Bexar County inmate search starts with the Sheriff's jail roster and the Central Magistrate list. The jail roster returns booking data, charges, and facility for people held at the Adult Detention Center. The Central Magistrate list covers recent arrests on Class B or higher offenses. Jail Activity Reports post as a free courtesy and stay online for a short window. People listed are presumed innocent. An inmate record is booking data, not proof of guilt, and some details lag behind the booking process.

How to Use the Bexar County Jail Roster

The Bexar County Sheriff's Office runs the jail roster. It is part of the same Justice Portal used for court records. The Jail Search tool returns booking and custody data for people held at the Adult Detention Center. You can search by name, by SO number, or by booking number. The county warns that booking data can lag, so a very recent arrest may not show right away. Use the Central Magistrate list for arrests in the last 24 hours.

Before you start, gather a full name. A booking number or SO number speeds things up. The roster needs at least three characters before it will run a search. Results show ten per page, so use the date facets to narrow a long list.

  1. Open the Jail Search tool on the Justice Portal.
  2. Type a name, an SO number, or a booking number; at least three characters are needed.
  3. Use the Date Booked or Date Released facets to filter the list.
  4. Click a result, then choose View Jailing to open the full booking profile.
  5. For an arrest in the last 24 hours, check the Central Magistrate list instead.

The Sheriff's Office is the source for all of these tools. The screenshot below comes from the Bexar County Sheriff's Office page.

What a Bexar County Inmate Record Shows

A booking profile holds far more than the result row. The Bexar County jailing record uses a standard set of fields from booking. It lists identity data, a physical description, the facility, and a charge block for each count. The inventory below pairs each field with what it shows on a Bexar County inmate record.

FieldWhat It Shows
Booking NumberThe unique ID for the booking event.
Booking Date / TimeWhen the person entered the jail.
Release Date / TimeWhen the person was released, if it applies.
Defendant NameThe current name on the booking record.
Race / GenderBooking race and gender fields.
Height / WeightPhysical description in feet, inches, and pounds.
Hair / EyesHair and eye color fields.

Mugshot FlagsFront, left, and right photo flags, so more than one angle can show.
Charge FieldsWarrant number, issuing authority, disposition, bond type, charge description, and cost fields.

Charge cost fields cover fine, costs, paid, and total cost. A sample profile listed an out of county warrant charge, a disposition of released on bond, and the arresting agency as the Bexar County Sheriff's Office.

Central Magistrate 24-Hour List

Some arrests are too fresh to show in the jail roster yet. For those, use the Central Magistrate search. The Central Magistrate Office processes Class B or higher offenses, and the list covers people booked in the last 24 hours. It is a short table, not a full profile. You get name, race, age, SID, and booking number for each row. A file export link lets you save the current list.

The booking number runs in a B-year-number format. The SID is the state identification number. Because the list rolls every 24 hours, an older arrest will not appear here. For that, switch back to the jail roster or search the related case in the Justice Portal. The screenshot below is the Central Magistrate recent arrest search.

Use this list for very recent bookings. Use the jail roster for people already in custody and processed.

Note: The Central Magistrate list shows only Class B or higher arrests from the last 24 hours, so older bookings will not appear there.

Bexar County Jail Activity Reports

The Sheriff posts Jail Activity Reports as a free courtesy. The county says all of this information is public, and that people listed are presumed innocent until proven guilty. These reports stay online for a maximum of seven days, then roll off. Data may be down at times for maintenance and network upgrades. The booking process also matters here. Where a person sits in that process can mean some data is not updated yet.

The Sheriff's Office adds a scam warning to this page. The office does not take payment by phone to avoid arrest. It never asks for gift cards or cryptocurrency. Treat any such call as a scam. The screenshot below is the Jail Activity Reports page.

Bexar County Inmate Mail Rules

Mail to a Bexar County inmate follows strict rules. Every piece needs the inmate's name and SID number. Add the unit location if you know it. The address is the Bexar County Adult Detention Center, 200 N. Comal Street, San Antonio, TX 78207. The jail opens, inspects, and scans incoming mail into a kiosk for the inmate to view. Scanned mail is held for two business days, then destroyed. The kiosk delivers mail five days a week, Monday through Friday, except federal holidays.

The mailing format matters. Get the name and SID right or the mail may not reach the inmate. Mail with no SID, a name mismatch, or for someone no longer there may not get a rejection notice. Mail sent after release or transfer is returned to sender. Books have their own rules. A cell may hold three paperbacks, sent straight from a publisher or an established bookstore, with the SID on the shipping label.

Many items are banned. The list bars cash, money orders, cashier's checks, credit cards, phone cards, photo IDs, original documents, more than six photos, photos larger than 5x7, cards with glitter or string, hardback and spiral books, and much more. When in doubt, leave it out. The full rules sit on the Sheriff's inmate mail page.

Note: Mail without the inmate's name and SID number may be rejected, and mail sent after a release or transfer is returned to the sender.

Bexar County Inmate Email and Photo Costs

The jail offers an email and photo service through the kiosk system. It is not free. Each message and each photo carries a small fee. Messages are usually ready for the inmate to review within 48 hours, so it is not instant. Legal and privileged mail should not go through this service. If you send it the wrong way, it is treated as regular mail and inspected. The table below lists the posted costs.

ItemCost / Rule
Email / message$0.25 per message
Photo$0.50 per photo
Review timingUsually ready within 48 hours
Legal / privileged mailDo not send through this service; subject to regular mailroom inspection

Visitation details are a different matter. The Jail Activity page links to how to schedule a visit, how to send money or care packages, and banking for inmates. Confirm those steps on the linked Sheriff's Office and Jail Activity Reports pages before you plan a visit.

Booking Delays and Data Limits

Online jail data is a snapshot, not a live feed. The county warns that depending on where a person sits in the booking process, some data may not be updated yet. A recent arrest can take time to appear. The system may also be down for maintenance. Jail Activity Reports only stay up for seven days. So a person booked and released more than a week ago may not show in that report at all.

Read an inmate record with care. A charge is an accusation, not a conviction. The disposition field tells you how a charge is moving, such as released on bond. If the data looks stale or wrong, call the Sheriff's Office to confirm. For the court side of a charge, open the matching case in Bexar County arrest records. For active warrant questions tied to a booking, see warrant records.
